May 2, 2011

Greetings from GITA

Hope
everyone is doing well.  We had a great dinner last month and are
looking forward to seeing many you again this month.  Last month Giacomo
added Tripe to the Gita menu.  Quite a few people said they loved it
and hadn’t had it since their grandmothers made it  for them many years
ago.  He’s agreed to add it to the menu again this month.

On
a personal note, it is with some sadness that I report the closing of
East Side Properties, with which I’ve been associated for many years.
But, time marches on.  East Side was a relatively small office located
on the Beach and we enjoyed many wonderful years together.  On the
brighter side I’m happy to announce that I’ve joined the staff of Castelli Real Estate Services
Castelli is a larger agency and has offices on the Galt, Las Olas
Boulevard, Hallandale Beach and the main office at 2227 Wilton Drive,
which is where I mainly function.   I’m excited to be part of their
excellent staff and am looking forward to helping you with your real
estate needs.

We thank you all for your good wishes and continued support and hope to see you very soon.

GITA DINNER MEETING on Monday, May 9, 2011

Tricks Duplicate Bridge Club meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 and

Lauderdale Bridge Club, directs on Saturdays.   All games are charity

ITALIAN LANGUAGE CLASSES   The Italian Language class is taking a break for the summer but classes will resume in the Fall.
The classes are still free to all under the GITA patronage. Instead
of a fee, we invite participating students to make a donation, 100% of
which goes to Tuesdays Angels.

Since we revived this class in Oct 2009, we have donated over $700
to Tuesdays Angels due to the efforts of our volunteer teacher, John
Ritter, and the generosity of our students.
For more information or If you’re interested in attending classes please contact Bobby Caruso at [email protected]

 MAH JONGG

Mah
Jongg anyone? this ancient game from China combines skill and luck and
is played with tiles. If you like cards or board games and a challenge,
you will probably enjoy it. Beginners welcome. Contact Keith at
954-446-5666.

BOOK BEAT

Drawing Conclusions is another excellent Venetian Inspector Guido Brunetti story by Donna Leon.

The
Fifth Witness by Michael Connelly is a bit overlong and tedious and
will probably be the next film sequel to his Lincoln Lawyer.

Water
for Elephants by Sara Gruen is a wonderful book about life in a
depression era circus recounted by Jacob Jankowski in his 20’s and as a
nonagenarian at age 90, or 93.  His reflections on nursing home life and
aging are particularly poignant and become more relevant by the day.

PICTURES

Pictures
from practically all previous dinners since 2003 can be found on the
GITA website.  From the home page select “Photo Gallery” then select
GITA-Dinners. If you’d like prints, suitable for framing, of any of the
photos on the website just let me know.

The Gita website is undergoing some face lifting and may, at times, be unavailable.

BUSINESS CARDS

We
are hoping to add more member’s business cards to our website. If you’d
like us to add your card you need to either send me a card or email me a
scan of your card. The more the merrier.

DINNER RAFFLE

Each
month at our dinners we have a raffle and give away extravagant prizes.
There is no charge to participate in the raffle. Again this month we
will be accepting modest raffle gifts from interested members who choose
to promote their business in this most entertaining way.    We’d like
to thank Jay Holmes and Denny Hamann who each donated copies of their
own books, Caffmos Community which has donated several Gold Memberships
to their organization and Richard Fredericks who has donated many
tickets to the Delray String Quartet.

Thanks for your continued support. Hope to see you all on the 9th.
