Greetings from GITA

We’d like to wish everyone a Happy June and especially those wonderful  Gita members who have chosen to stay here for the summer to keep us company.  The joys of summer in Fort Lauderdale are too many to count.

We thank you all for your good wishes and continued support and hope to see you very soon.

Mortgage rates are at rock bottom.  Rental rates are rising.  Inventory of single family homes is very low.  Banks are now required to respond promptly to short sale offers.  It’s time for you to buy something. Call me.

I’m just finishing a book called Secret Historian: The Life and Times of Samuel Steward, Professor, Tattoo Artist, and Sexual Renegade by Justin Spring.  This book is drawn from the secret, never-before-seen diaries, journals, and sexual records of the novelist, poet, and university professor, Samuel M. Steward.  This is an amazing account of one of the more extraordinary hidden lives of the 20th century.  Steward was an intimate friend of Gertrude Stein, Alice B. Toklas, Thornton Wilder, and you name it.  He seems to have known and slept with every gay writer, artist, and personality in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Paris and Rome.  He documented his social and sex life in elaborate detail and kept 3 by 5 cards on all of his hundreds of sexual partners from his earliest days.  He bacame intimately involved with Kinsey’s research in the 50’s and in his later years became the famous pornographer Phil Andros.  Quite a fascinating, if not exhausting, life.

Pictures from practically all previous dinners since 2003 can be found on the GITA website.  From the home page select “Photo Gallery” then select GITA-Dinners. If you’d like prints, suitable for framing, of any of the photos on the website just let me know.

The Gita website is undergoing some face lifting and may, at times, be unavailable.

We are hoping to add more member’s business cards to our website. If you’d like us to add your card you need to either send me a card or email me a scan of your card. The more the merrier.

Each month at our dinners we have a raffle and give away extravagant prizes. There is no charge to participate in the raffle. Again this month we will be accepting modest raffle gifts from interested members who choose to promote their business in this most entertaining way.    We’d like to thank David Malatesta and his Grand Estates Property Management Company for the bottle of wine they donated at last month’s dinner.

We mourn the recent passing of Gita member Richard Mineo.  In addition to being a long time Gita member Richard was my very entertaining instructor when I took the Real Estate Broker’s course.  Our sincere condolences go out to Pedro and Victor and all of Richard’s family.
Thanks for your continued support. Hope to see you all on the 13th.
