Greetings from GITA
We’re happy to see some nice weather coming our way. Easter was lovely
and we had a nice crowd for dinner at Primavera. But, alas, it’s that
time of year again when we begin to say goodbye to many of our seasonal
friends. It has been a good “Season” but the economy and weather have
kept it from being a great season. Many potential Fort Lauderdale
visitors this year chose instead to hop on cruise ships and head for
warmer climes rather than brave our cold weather.
Last month’s dinner was a big success and everyone reported having a
good time. Hope you can join us next Monday for this month’s dinner.
We thank you all for your good wishes and continued support and hope to
see you very soon.

The real estate market continues to feature outstanding bargains for
those in the shopping mood. There are low priced short sales,

impressed with some recent purchases that my clients have been able to

Mah Jongg anyone? this ancient game from China combines skill and luck
and is played with tiles. If you like cards or board games and a

The Ghost Writer by Robert Harris is one of the best books I’ve read in
the last month. It is the book from which the movie was made about a man
who is hired to help with the writing of the memoirs of a former British
prime minister. Haven’t yet seen the movie but really enjoyed the book.
Michael Lewis is the author of Liar’s Poker and Moneyball. His newest
book, The Big Short, clearly examines the process by which a few
individuals made billions of dollars by recognizing the absurdity of the
process by which the major banks were creating artificial securities
based on piles of doubtful mortgages and bet against them. He makes the
whole mess pretty clear.
Solar, by Ian McEwan, is the story of Michael Beard, a fairly unpleasant
Nobel Prize-winning, self centered physicist who becomes involved with
global warming and green business ventures. The book is satirical and
amusing and very clever and funny in parts but overall is not as
thoroughly satisfying as Atonement or Amsterdam or most of McEwan’s
other books. He is still, in my opinion, one of the best writers ever.
Have you read any good books lately?
Pictures from all previous dinners since 2003 can be found on the GITA
website. From the home page select “Photo Gallery” then select GITA-Dinners.
If you’d like prints, suitable for framing, of any of the photos on the
website just let me know.
UPCOMING GITA COOKING CLASSES
Chef Giacomo presents cooking classes frequently.
To make reservations call Primavera at 954-564-6363. Remember you need
to tell them that you are a Gita member to get the $10 discount. Giacomo
is a most amusing and entertaining teacher and really knows his stuff.
Class is delicious.
We are hoping to add more member’s business cards to our website. If
you’d like us to add your card you need to either send me a card or
email me a scan of your card. The more the merrier.
Each month at our dinners we have a raffle and give away modest prizes.
There is no charge to participate in the raffle. Again this month we
will be accepting modest raffle gifts from interested members who choose
to promote their business in this most entertaining way. Thanks to David
Malatesta and his Italian Cleaning Service and Ken from Macy’s for
bringing donations to last month’s dinner.
Thanks for your continued support. Hope to see you on the 12th.
